The first race of the year is in the books

Stop de pers!!! Stop de pers!!!

The first shot of the 2007 cross season has been fired. And Sven Nys has not won!!!!

Today at the Steenbergcross outside of Erpe-Mere, Belgium, Niels Alberts rode away with the win. It appears that Rabobank and Fidea lost sight of the guy coming into the last lap of the race. Dont know how you lose track of him. He is the only guy in the group of seven in a different jersey.

Sven said last week that he was more worried about Neils then anyone else on the circut this year. Guess he was right. I also wonder if the reported 20,000 km's that he put in had something to do with it?

Johnathan Page (Sun Web) started his season off with a THUD! DNF'ed because he was putting his bike together at 10.30p the night before a race? I thought only kids in the States did this kind of thing? Doesn't he have a mechanic to do that for him? Maybe the money conversion from Euro's to Dollars is worse than we thought. Hopefully he will have it all dialed in for Starcross and Vegascross in the next 2 weeks.

One more thing about the SunWeb boys, Jan Verstraeten crashed hard on a steep downhill ramp. Davy Commeyne crashed right behind him because of Verstraeten's bike. Both riders pulled out with Verstraeten needing most treatment.

Ouch...even the pros go down early in the racing season.
