Random thoughts on Paris Roubaix today

Happy Easter everyone. I am still uninspired to write but thought it would be fun to do a little color commentary for the race today. Paris Roubaix is the 2nd best race behind the Ronde, which I did not even get to watch.

Got up about 625am so I could try to get into cycling.tv - I have no faith in thier service anymore

Check justin.tv and get into eurosport....cycling.tv not working

632a - get logged into cycling.tv but they might be speaking english. Brian with a mouth full of marbles...I am better off with the flemish eurosport feed

636a - we have hit the forest...boonen looking good and there is a crash at the back. guys jumping down the hill and carnage everywhere

642a - the leaders went into the forest with a 2.42 lead and come out with 1.38....those guys chasing are good

655 - just hanging out and watching these guys ride....roads look like they came out of Weld County where I rode when in college at UNC

729 - Big George has a flat....I think I saw him pulling out is BB and giving a quick twitter update while he waited for his wheel change

732a - Stijn is pissed on the side of the road, yelling at the mechanic - Krijg mij een nieuwe Teermacadam fiets vervloekt het (get me a new Tarmac bike damn it..)

742a - Saxo is on the move again, Spartacus is looking good....they have good numbers in the group today along with QSI and Cervelo

743 - 65k to go with 40 guys in the main group.....time to start widdling this down to the guns

746 - crash...crash...it is a moto hitting a spectator. That is not good, there is Primus beer spilled all over the sidewalk. That looked like it hurt

754 - Former winner Servais Knaven has blown up...his day is done. Also, a great ride to Steve Corza from Garmin. Has been in the front group most of the day

755 - Ron, Brian and I rode in the wind yesterday...not fun. Did echelon work at the res since the wind was from the south at about 30mph all day. But not as bad as the day into Alamosa at RTR about 5 years ago, that was brutal.

Picks for us
Ron - Cancellara
Brian - Boonen
Rich - Hausler

So far so good - they are all in the lead group

800 - Quinziato has cyclocross cheater brake levers on his bike...that is so 2004

803 - Boonen had decieded it is go time....hope he can make this stick, he is dragging 2 other guys with him up the road, but it all went for naught....everyone back together again

806 - Cycling.tv is starting to let me down again...video getting really choppy but audio is excellent

807 - Chavanel takes the "sidewalk line" to move to the front...I have seen that in ACA races (Longmont) but the outcome is not as good...kids, dont try this at home, you are watching trained professionals

810 - Team Columbia in full on TTT mode and they are down a minute...Big Geroge on the front but they are not getting up to the lead 15...twitter updates are making this hard

814 - Quinziato has thrown the anchor and the parachute at this point...they cheater brake lever must have been dragging on the rims and took all of his energy

817 - Saxo has missed the Boonen TGV, we are in France - Hausler is also in this group...so much for my pick. Still 43k to go though.

I really wanted to see the Quick Step boys in those "retro Panasonic" looking kits. Those were really cool with the all black helmets.

824 - Lead is 25 seconds with 38k to go...If this was the Tour, that would be an easy catch but out here where the hard men live and work, this group has the winner in it

837 - Tornado Tom gets a great bike change with 29k to go. Took him only about 30 seconds to get back to the group. That is PRO right there

840 - Cycling.tv has started the buffering session now....who know's when this will end. Back to justin.tv. I have lost 2k of the race with thier shitty servers, AGAIN!!!!

850 - I'm bored...20k to go and all team service has be completed. Somebody attack. If I wanted to watch slow riding, I would watch the local women race around the industry park crits

Dont the new Campy shift levers look like the old Mavic Mektronic levers that were banned by the UCI. The top of them point up and in and they have that inward barend look...same look as the guy at Wash Park with the antlers (2 set's of barends mounted on top of each other)

858 - What a crash...Flecha, Van Summeran and Hoste down in the corner and Boonen and Thor take off. This is the real racing!!!

Thor is down....Thor is down....Boonen is riding away with everyone not being able to stay on thier bikes.

901 - It's 501p in Belgium and it is Happy Hour.....Hoegaarden is half price now!!!!

This is going to be epic...Boonen vs Pozzato in the velodrome. I would pay good money to see this one.

903 - The chase is on with Thor, Leif and VanSummeran are only 50 seconds or so....those were some epic crashes. Just cooked the corners, both left handers

906 - Is Pippo going backwards or is Tom laying down the law? Boonen can smell the velodrome at this point. He could be the Roger De Vlemick of the 21st century?

910 - It's up to 16 seconds...with Boonen's bike change, he went from a Tarmac SL to a Roubaix SL with the zertz inserts...If it is good for him, it should be good enough for everyone else

915 - with 4k to go...Pozzato has thrown the anchor.

922 - Tom has won again 3rd time in 5 years. That is a great record.

1st - Boonen
2nd - Pozzato
3rd - Hushovd

That's it kids.....now get out on your bike and ride....
