Cap'n Slow's "3 Things I'm over"

There are a lot of things in this world that I will never get my fill of:  hamburgers, french fries, cyclocross, motorcycles, etc.  The list goes on.  I can immerse myself in any of those topics and talk about them until the last person has left the bathroom stalls.

However, there are plenty of things I AM over.  First on the list is "LOST".  So many people got into that show and I have no idea why.  They were castaways.  So were the tourists and fearless crew of the "Minnow".  Gilligan's Island was more real than "Lost" even when the professor made a hyperdrive out of two coconuts and one of Ginger's thongs.  "Lost" is over.  Thank God.

I'm also over the Tour of California.  Some people who shall remain anonymous have challenged my opinion of the TOC and to them I can only say that it's cute the way you think I give a shit.  But the TOC, as cool a race as it is, has many issues to work out in the coming years.  First and foremost, the race needs to get harder and longer.  In short, it needs some fluffing.  And because it is easier than a sorority girl with a 3 beer buzz, it will never be a true challenger to the Giro.  The TOC is hyped and promoted and in the end it just lets you down because none of the stages truly aligns with the possibilities that California can provide.  The TOC is not boring as some have suggested; It's just small time.  I'm over it and I'm glad its over.

And the final thing I'm over is the UCI.  Floyd "The Angry Amish" Landis comes out of his 4 year denial to tell the "truth".  He makes a bunch of accusations, the UCI decides to listen to the ramblings of a guy wearing a testosterone patch over each ear, and asks cycling federations to investigate.   The UCI issued a statement that the requests are "aimed at establishing, in an objective manner, whether or not events potentially constituting a breach of the Anti-Doping Rules occurred. This does not in any way imply that the UCI considers the allegations made by Mr Landis to have any basis."

If allegations by Floyd "The Mennonite Menace" have no basis, why the hell is the UCI responding at all?  You know, give him a good ol' Amish shunning.  He'd understand that.  I have to wonder how long cycling can survive, not because of doping, but because of the way it is run.  I'm over it.  The UCI can fluff me.

  1. Good one. While I generally agree, I give a hearty 'here here' to being over Lost. I had my fill of these WTF psycho mind-game TV shows during the 'Twin Peaks' era.

  2. Lost...hmmm, I unplugged the cable from the house and Big Country helped me rip the dish off the side of our house ... and Lost has not been a factor, nor has the evening news, or even the cooking channel.
TOC will stay the same the way I see it. After the spring classics the boys just want to stay in a clean hotel and try to get on Dancing with the Stars and an autograph or two from Disney Land. They have to get off early to get down there before it closes.

    Thanks for the thoughts Cpt'n
