Sven said "That's enough boy" and went out and won yesterday at Neerpelt. Neils was second and Bart was third. The big suprise was Ben Berden in 7th. Ben is a convicted EPO user these days and had to sit out 18 months. Good to see him back racing again at this "high" of a level.
In other racing news.....
Christian Heule (Swi) Stevens, won the Star Crossed event up in Seattle on Saturday night. He is the defending Swiss national champion. Treefarm was second and Wicks was third. The results were the same for Sunday's Rad Racing race in Lakewood, WA., just outside of Seattle.
You can see all these fast kids and more at the CrossVegas race on Wed night...if you are going to the show, drag yourself away from the strip and come out and drink some beer and watch a great race under the lights. Chris Grealish will be putting on one of the best races of the year.
In local CO racing, the Frites en Mayo Team started off the season with a bang. Friday night saw the opening of the best bar in town, the Cheecky Monk - Belgium Beer Cafe. Needless to say, Saturday's opener down in the Springs was a little more than an eye opener. Cross is always hard but it is that much harder after drinking Leffe, Hoegaarden, Chimay and Kwak, the latter being in the 12% range of alcohol.
With a decent warm-up and a new course, it was a good time. Since this year I am racing the 35+ Cat 4 races, we start at 10.35am each week. The team did well with a 15th, 20th and 22nd places.
Mike finished 20th in the SM4's race. He has had a rough season already. Had to have a cyst removed from his tailbone, that kept him off the bike for about 3 weeks. John finished 16th in the SM3's race. He is also coming back from injury. He dislocated his thumb about 2 weeks ago in a crash during practice.
Sunday's race was a big more adventurous. Got to the race course early enough but then started to watch the 45+ guys. With less then 30 minutes before the start of our race, we finally got around to registration and no warm up. Felt good for the first 30 miutes, saw Brian crash in front of me, gave him an 8.5 since he landed in the soft stuff. Then just lost interest and shut it down for the last 3 laps. Brian recovered from 2 more falls, one in the feedzone, and finished a respectable 33rd place. He has never raced before and after doing back to back cross races, he has been fully bitten by the cross bug. I finished a marginal 46th. Ron decieded to take the day off....slacker!!!
The funniest part of the race was actually watching 2 guys sprinting for 44th place...that is always funny to me. There are no points available and only bragging rights until the next race.
Mike and Ryan were racing in the SM4's race. Mike finished 26th and Ryan had the lone DNF of the team. Ryan also has been travelling/dentist appointments and husband duties so this is his first race of the year.
John and Pete both raced in the SM3's. Both had good starts and rode well. John finished in 33rd and Pete finished 37th.
The Frites en Mayo bunch is off to Sin City for the show and CrossVegas.
